Ostende, Belgium. 1978.

Welcome to my travels . . .

I travel a lot. Always have . . . always will. My first trip on a plane was when I was one-year-old. My first trip out of the country was when I was two-years-old. Since then, I have visited all fifty states and over 40 countries. Like I said, I travel a lot.

I am fortunate in that I own a small business which has given me many opportunities to see the world. Since I own my business, I am usually on my own schedule. I might go to Europe or Asia for a client, but I have always found time to hang around a little and explore my surroundings. Too much of corporate America (or the corporate world) frowns upon lingering away from the office for any longer than necessary. Too many people miss out on too many fine adventures because Mr. Dithers requires his employees come home right away.

I am a technical trainer by trade, and a photographer too. Ever since my dad bought me my first camera (Zeiss Icon 35mm SLR) in 1970, I have been making photographs of my travels. These days, I spend much of my time on the road with my laptop, Nikon 35mm DSLR, or Samsung Galaxy smart phone, teaching technical classes to technical people, and making photographs when I’m I’m not in a classroom.

In my lifetime, I have lived in nine states and have lived in Germany for several extended periods. I have never been to a place where I didn’t find beauty and interest.

I now live in Colorado with my wife Linda. I don’t see myself moving anymore. Colorado is everything I have wanted in my life. From here until . . . I will continue to travel the world and write about and photograph the places I go.

My books have been published

The Rats of Plainville

My new book of fiction, The Rats of Plainville: Tales from the Heartland has been published and is available for purchase. The book is a collection of short stories from the Heartland of America – Missouri, Illinois, and Iowa. The stories all take place around the Mississippi River area and tell tales of people and places from the area.

The book can be purchased on Amazon.com.

Fifty-One

My second book, Fifty-One: My Travels Across America has also been published recently. The book follows me for forty years as I journey to all fifty states and Washington D.C. The true stories start with my enlistment into the Air Force in 1976 and end with a mountain biking trip I made to North Dakota in 2016. Along the way, you’ll meet a sheep-shearer in Indiana, a shotgun-wielding old lady in New Jersey, a princess in Florida, and strolling cows in Vermont.

This book can also be purchased on Amazon.

Up to Your Assets in Software

Up to Your assets in Software is a humorous look at Enterprise Asset Managment (EAM) software. For the past twelve years, I have been working with asset management software called Maximo. I have been a trainer, tester, writer, and systems analyst, supporting companies that implement Maximo to manage their assets, work, and supplies. I recentlry retired and decided to write a fun book that sheds light on what it takes to implement a large enterprise application. I wrote the book, covering everything from deciding to buy an EAM to programming it, testing it, training it, launching it, and using it. All I needed was pictures. I turned to my best friend Chris Lawler, who created the cartoon images for each verse.

Up to Your Assets in Software won’t appeal to all. But if you’ve ever worked with Maximo or another EAM, you will find truth in the light-hearted stories.
