Walden Ponds

December 2020

Yesterday was sunny and relatively warm for the end of December. Today was snowy and cold. Typical Colorado winter weather. I awoke to 20-degree temperatures and the beginnings of a weak snowfall. I sat in my office with a cup of coffee, looking out into the gray day. Mixed with the blues of COVID-19 isolation, I decided I didn’t like the cold colors. I needed to get out.

Thirty minutes later, I was hiking around the Walden and Sawhill Ponds in Boulder County. The collection of ponds and wetlands make for a nice hike and a great place to make photographs, especially when no one else is out.

Ice was beginning to form on the water and the falling snow made the ponds look like open fields.

I looped around a few ponds in the Sawhill Ponds Open Space and then drove to Walden Ponds. Another stroll around the ponds before heading home.

On my way back to the car, I came upon a flock of geese, trying like me to stay warm.
