Hello everyone . . .
This is where I am supposed to talk about myself – introduce myself. Okay, I will.
My name is Gabby. Actually, my real name is Gerald. I live in Arizona. I have been to all 50 states, and have lived in ten.
I have also traveled the world. Sometimes for fun, sometimes for work. Sometimes because I didn’t have anything better to do. I have been to six of seven continents (Antarctica still eludes me), and visited over 50 countries.
I haven’t been everywhere . . . but I’m working on it.
There is an allure to traveling that has always memorized me. Maybe it’s my love of history and geography. Maybe it’s seeing new things and meeting new people. I’ve always had the urge to go somewhere, and I am sure I always will.
I am fortunate in many ways.
- I’ve owned a business that allowed me to travel for work and take lots of time off to travel for play.
- I have a lovely wife who also loves to travel.
- I know how to travel on a budget.
- I know how to pack light.
I see beauty where ever I go. I attempt to capture what I see with photographs. My father gave me a 35mm camera when I was in high school, and I have been capturing places and moments since.
When I turned 60, I decided to share my stories and images. My memory is still pretty good. Between that, archived photographs, and notes taken along the way, I have been able to put down on paper (so to speak – all done on my laptop) stories from many of the places I have been. Relying on my memory, Google Maps, old photos, and a little imagination, I have been writing my tales from the road and matching them with photographs taken along the way.
I also have years of photographs that are unattached to a particular story. But all photos have a story to tell. These will also be posted as I dig through my archives, remember why I took the photograph, and write a brief sentence or two about them.
I’ll end with one of my favorite quotes, although I read it so long ago, I can’t remember where. If anyone knows who this quote is attributed to, please let me know.
An adventure is a disaster that got cheated out of happening.
Happy travels . . .
